Kavisha Alles
Kavisha Alles' dancing journey began in Perth, Western Australia, where she performed at Sri Lankan community events, before commencing formal training in the classical style of Bharatanatyam. After moving to Melbourne in 2012 to pursue a career in Finance, Kavisha explored numerous styles of dance before she finally rediscovered her passion through Odissi. Drawn to its duality of elegance and strength, she has been training under Monica Singh’s tutelage at the Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts since 2014. Kavisha describes her time in Odissi class as both an opportunity to ‘switch off’ and exercise her mental agility, a time requiring both relaxation and concentration. The joy she experiences in the company of her friends and in drawing inspiration from other dancers is evident in Kavisha’s presentation style: she brings to the dance a sparkle and magical sense of rhythm. Kavisha holds a Commerce/Arts double degree from the University of Western Australia. When she is not dancing, she enjoys creative pursuits such as interior design and sewing, sports such as indoor soccer, cycling, long distance running and exploring Melbourne’s music scene.
